Godanti, also known as Gowdanti, Selenite, or Gypsum, is a naturally occurring mineral made up of calcium sulfate dihydrate (CaSO4·2H2O). Found in sedimentary rock layers, it appears as soft white or gray crystals resembling cow teeth, which inspired its Sanskrit name. In traditional Ayurvedic practices, Godanti is purified into a fine powder known as Godanti Bhasma and is valued for its role in classical preparations. Naturally rich in calcium and sulfur, it has also been part of cultural rituals and mineral-based traditions for centuries.
